François-Xavier Gbré'sstudies of buildings and monuments are informed by the artist's shifting perspective of the landscapes he inhabits. Born to a French Ivorian family in Lille, Gbré witnessed his hometown's transition from a thriving industrial centre to a city in decline. As industry collapsed, seeing imposing buildings on the verge of ruin triggered the artist's early interest in documenting the transformation of the urban landscape.
